The Beauchamp BuildingAlthough a large number of these records have been recorded and mixed in studios around the world, the majority have gone through Andys' own studio - The Beauchamp Building. Sometimes the entire process from pre-production to final mix, sometimes only part of the process; for example the tracking may have been done elsewhere and then vocals, further arrangement, overdubs and mix completed at The Beauchamp Building. The studio is located in a quiet square in Central London. It was designed by Simon Colebrook and Alan Smith. The studio design incorporates Simon Colebrook's trademark use of glass floors and walls and suspended light panels. Alan Smith, who was the head studio designer at Londons' Nomis complex, has handled all acoustic considerations. The studio, completed December 98, consists of a fully isolated / floating recording room (which can be altered between totally live and very dead), large control room, isolation booth and a very reverberant, 8 m high area. There is also a musicians kitchen and lounge. The control room features a classic Neve 72 input console (51 series) with moving fader automation and 40 channels of Pro-Tools hard disc recording with Logic Platinum software. Three 20 bit ADAT machines and a MCI 1/2" recorder are also installed and the machine room is configured to accept any combination of 2" and digital machines. There is a full complement of microphones including a number of well known classic valve and ribbon mics, and one of the largest collections of out-board gear in London; studio standards along with some more unusual pieces. Various guitars, amps, Akai 6000 sampler, a very large collection of foot pedals and both analogue and digital synths are permanently available. |
