Top ten highlights of Glastonbury 2010
NO. 8 “Post-punk luminaries Gang of Four gave a tight, energetic and aggressive performance on the John Peel Stage. The highlight was when Jon King smashed a microwave to bits with a giant club to the beat of the music. It was an exhilarating piece of abstract theatre. Unfortunately I wasn’t in the right place to grap one of the pieces when he threw them into the crowd. It cheered us up after the worst performance of the weekend: the England football team.”
Thanks Lucy.

The artwork that Andy and Jon created around the records, the sleeves, the posters, the adverts, were an essential part of the Gang of Four narrative. The images worked as a context for the songs; the music entered into a dialogue with the visual. Over the last six months, Andy and Jon have made a series of fine art prints based on iconic images they have chosen.
These are superb quality limited edition giant A0 sized Giclee prints on super heavyweight paper. Each one is strictly limited to a run of five and signed by Andy and Jon. They are available exclusively via Pledge Music

Jon and Andy recently gave a nice interview for Contact Music. Here’s a little excerpt:
When you look at bands like Bloc Party for example does that make you feel proud of the legacy you’ve helped create?
Andy Gill: Well, The Velvet Underground probably spawned 10,000 imitators and in a way, it sometimes feels a bit like that. People like the Red Hot Chilli Peppers have openly admitted to being influenced by us and even stealing bits of our music. When I listen to the likes of Bloc Party, Franz Ferdinand, The Futureheads and The Rapture I can hear Gang Of Four in so many ways. I don’t want to dwell on it too much other than to say I think we should be entitled to a royalty share.
Jon King: I was talking to Flea from the Chilli Peppers recently and he actually said he was surprised we hadn’t sued them over their blatant plagiarism of our music!
